However, for characters like Laharl and Etna, they can't upgrade their class or change class, so the only benefit seems to be that they may get some more ability points, depending on how much mana I spend. I'm left with some questions about when it's worth it do this. Are the ability bonuses cumulative, such that if I transmigrate him 10 times, I'll get 10 times worth of stat bonsues?
Or will my 2nd transmigration wipe out the ability bonuses of the first? If it doesn't stack, will I ever need to transmigrate again once I've transmigrated at the Genius level? However, transmigrating shouldn't be done lightly unless you can very easily level your characters. You'll have to level your characters over again and gain enough mana for them to transmigrate again. The main reason for transmigrating to Genius is because of the Inheritance Rate. Inheritance rate is how much of your Skill and Weapon experience you lose when you transmigrate.
Since there is no easy way to grind Weapon Level or Skill Level, losing skill level really hurts. If you can't easily get enough mana to migrate your character as a Genius, don't transmigrate yet. Disgaea is not about grinding, it's about grinding intelligently. You're too early in the game to worry about this from what I can tell.
Ability points don't stack in the way you describe; you always get 10 for genius, and you get a set amount of points extra for that character based on their total level. Asked 9 years, 7 months ago. The awnser here is a crap ton. Every time you level your stats increase based on the base stats that character has. A single point of HP can equal roughly at lv!
Once you've unlocked the "cave of ordeals" and reached the third stage you can level stupidly fast and can begin to really abuse trasmigration to become insane powerhouses, which is pretty much the fun of Disgaea. Tips for Transmigration - Get good equipment to offset level differences to level up quickly. Of course that's mana down the drain but mana comes quickly once you're set up a stockpile of managers and get to a good stage for farming.

I am way too early in the game. I did flonne at level 70 ish, and I quickly got mana to do it again, but I think I will wait a bit before I do it again, and will get a lot of stats in the process. There is one thing that I do. That is take a fire mage, level it up until it gets the max tier spell for its class, then transmigrate to ice mage, and repeat through star mage. The highest tier mages do NOT actually get the highest tier spells even though they can learn the spells of each group.
That character can jump through all the hoops, learn all the spells, and then transmigrate over to its final destination class. I often do this for healers so they have more going for them than just a bow and heal spells. But its also helpful if you have a master and you want them to learn all the spells like flonne or later priere but don't want 50 characters just sitting around. Here is another important note: In the "mentor system", every time a disciple levels up the master gets some bonus stats.
But, when you transmigrate, those bonus stats are lost and don't go into the "bank". So, in some ways, you could end up with a transmigrated character weaker than it was previously at the same level IF that character was a mentor to a TON of other characters who were at high levels. He would gain bonus stats for all the next levels they gain after Laharl's transmigration. It doesn't negate further bonuses, you just lose the ones he already gained. With the exception of some mages for whom spells and staff mastery are slow to learn , it's probably a good idea to reincarnate most of your classes to the next available tier at some point. Side note: a good strategy for the first cycle through the game is to create two characters of each class that you really like, so that you can play "Reincarnation Hopscotch.
Use the second character to unlock the third tier, and the reincarnate the first character to that new tier. Now use the first character again to unlock the 4th tier so that the second character can transmigrate once more. It's not unreasonable to expect to have the 4th tier unlocked by the time you get to Episode The drawback of this strategy is that your main party won't have as much variety as it might otherwise, since you'll have a couple duplicated classes in its main battalion. One interesting way to help take advantage of rapid reincarnation during the first cycle of the game is via the Bonus Gauge.
Any character outside the BasePanel at the time a map is cleared will be awarded the full value of bonus experience. On later story stages and mid-rank Item Worlds this can easily be 3, to 6, experience and even more if you're lucky. The Bonus Gauge can be an easy source of exp for that reincarnated character. But where one is good, several is even better: If you reincarnate multiple characters at the same time, and pull out your team of lvl 1 wimps out of your BasePanel just before clearing the map, they'll likely be around lvl for the next map, and ready to join the fray.
As any good veteran of Disgaea: Hour of Darkness will tell you, Transmigration was best done infrequently -- especially for story mode characters who dubiously lost their special moves every time they transmigrated. In Disgaea 2 however the system has been improved substantially, and there is now plenty of motivation to reincarnate characters both early and often. It's also a great technique for improving the strength of your story characters during your first cycle, and can make Adell in particular an elite fighter against the high-level opposition that you will continually face.
